ABOUT US

Who We Are

One Way Solutions Indigenous Corporation (OWSIC) is a not for profit community based organisation which provides services relating to: education, training, employment and small business support to Torres Strait Islander and Aboriginal people who live in the Torres Strait Islands, Northern Peninsula Area and the Cairns region.
We are incorporated under the Corporations (Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander) Act 2006

Our Mission & Vision

Deliver quality education and employment services that will support and assist school retention; access to training and skill development; and local employment in meaningful work.
Form partnerships that will support our mission and that will help create and support local opportunities for economic development.

Our Goals

Our Goals are underpinned by cultural engagement with, and by all, stakeholders so that language and cultural differences are supported and contribute to improving outcomes.

Our Values

Our values form the foundation to achieving our goals and carrying out activities. They are reflected through OWSIC’s Rulebook and are the responsibility of, and implemented through, the work of our board of directors.

Our Partnerships

David Ahboo

Director

David is a Torres Strait Islander man from Thursday Island. He is a small business owner and local entrepreneur. He is a trainer, skilled mentor and facilitator. He has developed extensive local networks and partnerships and is passionate about jobs and opportunities for local people. He is a leader, training and employment broker and is results-driven.

Jeffrey Aniba

Director

Jeffrey Aniba is a Torres Strait Islander. He is one of the Directors for OWSIC and the current chairperson for Northern Peninsula Area Ngurpai Ikama Ikya Education Council Inc. His passion is to empower people to make better choices in life whether in Education, Training and Employment.

Lyn Sutton

Director 

Lyn is a small business owner with more than 20 years’ national experience working in Indigenous affairs. She has a strong knowledge of Indigenous corporate governance and administration. Lyn is outcomes focussed, with expertise in business support, grant writing, program development, delivery and coordination.

  • Young people who have dropped out of school or who have decreased engagement with the education system

  • People at work who require mentoring to retain their jobs
  • Those who require training in Workplace Practices to give them skills to look for work
  • People wishing to undertake vocational training to achieve qualifications and who are uncertain about the pathways available to them
